Dengue Fever (Qdenga)Vaccination

Dengue is a viral infection caused by four different dengue virus serotypes (DENV-1, DENV-2, DENV-3, DENV-4). It is transmitted by Aedes mosquitoes that predominantly feed during daytime hours. Qdenga is a live attenuated vaccine licensed in the UK for prevention of dengue disease.

Individuals aged 4+ with previous dengue infection traveling to risk areas

Vaccination Schedule

2 doses given 3 months apart. UK guidelines currently recommend for those with previous dengue infection. Blood tests for previous infection may be required (usually offered privately).

Travel Advice

Most dengue infections (40-80%) are asymptomatic. Combine vaccination with strict mosquito bite prevention, especially during dawn and dusk. Seek immediate medical attention for fever during/after travel. Severe dengue is rare in travelers but more likely with second infections.
